Blood Flow Restriction Therapy
Blood flow restriction therapy (BFRT) is a rehabilitative technique that involves applying a strap-like device to your axilla or groin region, that temporarily restricts blood flow to a specific limb or muscle group while the patient exercises at a low intensity.
What are the benefits of blood flow restriction therapy?
Muscle hypertrophy: BFR training has been shown to promote muscle growth, even with low-intensity exercises. This can make this a useful intervention for individuals who are unable to tolerate high-intensity exercise due to injury, surgery, or other limitations. The research is less clear about the benefits at later stages of rehab.
